Cities With the Most Polluted Air Today

This ranking compares real-time Air Quality Index (AQI) readings to identify where air pollution levels are currently elevated across the United States.

Pollution levels may fluctuate throughout the day as atmospheric conditions and local emission sources shift.

Air Quality Index (AQI) values are calculated from several monitored pollutants including fine particulate matter (PM2.5), PM10, ground-level ozone (O₃), nitrogen dioxide (NO₂), sulfur dioxide (SO₂), and carbon monoxide (CO). Additional pollutants such as ammonia (NH₃) and nitric oxide (NO) may also be displayed for broader air quality monitoring.
