Air Quality Alert Air Quality Alert issued July 2 at 3:15PM EDT by NWS Caribou ME Jul 2, 3:15 PM → Jul 6, 12:00 AM The Maine Department of Environmental Protection's Bureau of AirQuality has issued an Air Quality Alert for particle pollution frommidnight tonight to midnight EDT Sunday night.Particle pollution levels are expected to rise into the Unhealthy forSensitive Groups range periodically during the weekend. People areadvised to follow the health message if visibility is poor or theycan smell smoke.The Maine Department of Environmental Protection recommends thatindividuals consider limiting strenuous outdoor physical activity toreduce the risk of adverse health effects. People who may beespecially sensitive to the effects of elevated levels of pollutantsinclude the very young, older adults, those who work outdoors, thosewith pre-existing respiratory problems such as asthma, and thosewith heart disease. It is okay to be active outdoors. But if youexperience symptoms such as shortness of breath, coughing, throatirritation or an uncomfortable sensation in your chest, pleaseconsider limiting the intensity and duration of your outdooractivities.A toll free air quality hotline has been established so Maineresidents can stay informed on the air quality situations.
