Minimize direct sun exposure during peak hours (10 AM to 4 PM) to reduce the risk.

Fire Weather Watch

Fire Weather Watch issued May 15 at 8:01PM MDT until May 16 at 8:00PM MDT by NWS Albuquerque NM
May 16, 2:00 PM May 16, 8:00 PM
...RED FLAG WARNING HAS EXPIRED FOR THE EAST CENTRAL PLAINS...

...RED FLAG WARNING REMAINS IN EFFECT FROM 2 PM TO 8 PM MDT SATURDAY
DUE TO STRONG WINDS AND LOW RELATIVE HUMIDITY FOR THE NORTHEAST
PLAINS AND NORTHEAST HIGHLANDS...

...FIRE WEATHER WATCH REMAINS IN EFFECT FROM SATURDAY AFTERNOON
THROUGH SATURDAY EVENING DUE TO STRONG WINDS AND LOW RELATIVE
HUMIDITY FOR THE EAST CENTRAL PLAINS, THE MIDDLE RIO GRANDE VALLEY,
SANDIA, MANZANO MOUNTAINS, AND CENTRAL HIGHLANDS...

.Winds are gradually decreasing and temperatures are gradually
cooling allowing critical fire weather conditions to end across the
east central plains.

Winds will restrengthen on Saturday over a more widespread portion
of northern and central New Mexico. Humidity will not have recovered
much Saturday morning, making it easy for relative humidity values
to plummet further into the afternoon. This will increase the threat
for critical fire weather on Saturday. Currently, confidence is
highest over the northeastern highlands and northeastern plains
where the Fire Weather Watch was upgraded to a Red Flag Warning. A
Fire Weather Watch continues for central to east central New Mexico
where conditions are a bit more marginal and confidence is not quite
as high.

* AFFECTED AREA...Middle Rio Grande Valley (Zone 106), Sandia and
Manzano Mountains (Zone 124), and Central Highlands (Zone 125).

* TIMING...From Saturday afternoon through Saturday evening.

* 20 FOOT WINDS...Southwest winds 15 to 25 mph with gusts up to 35
mph.

* RELATIVE HUMIDITY...Relative Humidity between 5 to 9 percent.

IMPACTS: Any fires that develop will spread rapidly. Outdoor
burning is not recommended.

Severe Expected Likely

Red Flag Warning

Red Flag Warning issued May 16 at 1:33AM MDT until May 16 at 8:00PM MDT by NWS Albuquerque NM
May 16, 2:00 PM May 16, 8:00 PM
...RED FLAG WARNING IN EFFECT FROM 2 PM THIS AFTERNOON TO 8 PM MDT
THIS EVENING DUE TO STRONG WINDS AND LOW HUMIDITY FROM THE MIDDLE
RIO GRANDE VALLEY EASTWARD TO TEXAS, AND THE NORTHEASTERN PLAINS
AND HIGHLANDS...

...FIRE WEATHER WATCH IN EFFECT FROM SUNDAY MORNING THROUGH SUNDAY
EVENING DUE TO STRONG WINDS AND LOW HUMIDITY FOR WEST-CENTRAL,
CENTRAL, EASTERN, AND NORTHEASTERN NEW MEXICO...

.Winds restrengthen today over a more widespread portion of
northern, eastern, and central New Mexico. Humidity falling below 10
percent for 6 to 12 hours alongside widespread sustained
southwesterly winds of 15 to 25 mph will increase the threat for
critical fire weather and increase difficulty for current fire
suppression activities across east-central NM this afternoon. More
widespread and stronger southwesterly winds alongside another round
of 6 to 15 hours of single-digit humidity will yield critical to
extremely critical fire weather conditions for most of west-central,
central, eastern, and northeastern New Mexico Sunday.

The National Weather Service in Albuquerque NM has issued a Fire
Weather Watch in effect from Sunday morning through Sunday evening,
and a Red Flag Warning in effect from 2 PM this afternoon to 8 PM
MDT this evening.

* AFFECTED AREA...Middle Rio Grande Valley (Zone 106), Sandia and
Manzano Mountains (Zone 124), Central Highlands (Zone 125), and
East Central Plains (Zone 126).

* TIMING...For the Red Flag Warning, from 2 PM this afternoon to 8
PM MDT this evening. For the Fire Weather Watch, from late Sunday
morning through Sunday evening.

* 20 FOOT WINDS...For the Red Flag Warning southwest winds 15 to 20
mph with gusts up to 35 mph, and for the Fire Weather Watch
southwest winds 20 to 30 mph with gusts up to 45 mph.

* RELATIVE HUMIDITY...For the Red Flag Warning relative humidity
between 5 to 9 percent, and for the Fire Weather Watch relative
humidity between 4 to 10 percent.

IMPACTS: Any fires that develop will spread rapidly. Outdoor
burning is not recommended.
