Special Weather Statement

Special Weather Statement issued December 3 at 8:18PM CST by NWS Quad Cities IA IL
Dec 3, 8:18 PM Dec 4, 9:00 AM
Northwest winds will continue to usher in very cold arctic air down
across the area tonight through Thursday. As the winds decrease to 5
MPH or lower toward dawn under mainly clear skies, temperatures will
plummet over the deep blanket of snow across the area. Ambient low
temperatures by Thursday morning will range from 5 below to 10 below
zero generally along and north of the Interstate 80 corridor. There
may be a few areas the get colder then 10 below north of Interstate
80 in northeast Iowa. Since this is rather early in the winter
season to get so cold, several areas may approach or exceed record
cold low temperatures for December 4th.

Even though the winds will be decreasing toward morning, they will
still be enough to combine with the very cold ambient temperatures
to produce wind chills from 10 below to 20 below zero across much of
the area. If you must head out early Thursday morning, dress in
layers, cover exposed skin, stay dry, and limit time outdoors if
possible.
